On the other hand, changing conditions may have a welcome effect on traffic receipts, any increase in which would be nearly all additions to profits. "PEIPING SYNDICATE
A debit balance of £14,499 is re- ported by the Peiping Syndicate for the year to June 30, 1932, against credit of £8,000 for 1930-31. After crediting difference in ex change of £5,656 and charging £71,356 for investment deprecia- tion, credit balance of £9,234. brought in from 1930-31 is convert ed into debit of £71,163. As this deficit is due to investment depre. ciation and is not a realised loss, it is carried forward instead of being extinguished by a transfer from reserve.
At the end of last month shout 3 per cent of the depreciation in investments had been recovered.
