and the Library although in its| BUILDING incipient stage are adding to the fold almost daily new friends and donations, and with private epon- taneous contributions and dona- tions from Public Departments the Library is growing to the satisfac tion of all concerned.
All books belonging to the late millionaire Dr. Pareira Marques, until quite recently deposited at the Macao Club's Library, have been sent to the Public Library. On the historical and scientific- field the Macao Library will pro- vide a wide scope of investigation
information! for those desiring about history, philosophy and the medical science.
Dr. Pereira Marques was an ex- cellent English scholar and had travelled widely in Europe and in England. This explaine the reason why the greater part of his Li-i brary consists of English books.
A large collection of Portuguese and French literary and scientific works, some of them of important value, and SOMO bibliographic Spanish and German publications complete the present stock of the library,
Art and History

Added to the interesting statuary and pictorial specimens already existing at the Museum the Macao Government purchased almost the entire collection of the late Dr. Silva Mendes Some very rare and valuable articles may be seen and some of them are said to su persede in quality and present atate identical specimens existing in the best provided museums of Europe. This very important rea- Bon will certainly appeal to the curiosity of all who have a tain eraving for oriental art and history, who will certainly feel well compensated for a trip to Macao and a visit to its Museum and Public Library.
