So far as records show there were two previous games played between those ports in 1908 and 1913, ml. though in the former year the game was played between the Hong Kong Football Club and the Shangha Football Club, the result being win for the Hong Kong Football Club by three clear goals.

In 1913, the game was played at Shanghai and resulted in a win for Shanghai by the odd goal in three after extra time..

In 1993, after a long break, the were resumed, Interport games Shanghai sanding down a very strong team which won by three clear goals.
