A sterling tribute to the Hon. Mr. E. . Hallifax, CM.G., who is retiring next month, for his work in connection with the Royal Hong Kong Golf Club was paid by Mr. E. Davidson. In presenting Mr. Hallifax with a ten tray, Mr. David- sou said that Mr. Halifax had been a tower of strength to the Club and was mainly responsibla. for the fine course which they have at Fan-" ling to-day. He was largely instru mental in getting the site and a matter of fact he was one of its carly founders. He had held offices in the capacity of President, Chip tain and Hon, Secretary of the Club, and in recognition of these services l he was made a life imember some 17,80

years ago.

Mr. Hallifax suitably replied, after which the toast of the guests was proposed by Mr. Morrison.

The busiest establishment in Glas gow yesterday was ttic Inland Re- venue Office in George Street. Throughout the day there were queues of people waiting their turf to pay the three-quarters instalment of Income-tax dua on January 2, and it speaks well for the public spirit of Glasgow that the number approximated to that.of a year ago when records were created. With the opening to-day of the larger business premises, the Inland Re venue officials anticipate a rush of callers and queues extending to the main entrance of the building.
