Brussels, April 10-King Albert wil grant a special audience next week to the Belgian artillery of eer, Major Van Rotleghem, who, it is stated, has made a reinarkable discovery which may have far- renching effects on naval warfare.

During his audience at the Royal Paluc, Major Van Kolleghem will explain to the King how he has discered the means of protecting warships froin modern torpedoes,

Major Van Rolleghen, by means of a special apparatus is stated to. be able to protect by two methods a man-owar threatened by a tor- pedo: firstly, he can cause the ex- plosion of the torpedu, before it renches ita objretive, nt such a distance from the ship that the explosion cannot damage the vessel. Secondly he is able to alter the course of the torpedo so that it misses the ship. The second result is sai to be attained by the use of compressed air.

A torpedo, it is clairsed, can be- sidca be detected on board the ves-. sel against which it is fired by means of a special apparatus which automatically works the anti-ter pedo system.

Major Van Rolleghera will show King Albert reduced models of his invention. These models will then be sont to Paris and will be ex. amined by the French Ministry of the Navy.

It is also stated that the British Board of Trade has requested. Ma- jur Van Raleghem to show his 10 vention in London.
