"RANGO,
**Hangen ** And its premiere at The Central Theatre, yesterday, all foner shows being fairly filled.
Fascinating in its tensely inter- esting story, terrifying in its stark reality, gorgeous in its wild beauty, and superlatively funny, "Rango "tells the story of a Sumatra native and his little boy, of their neighbours, an old Orang- tan and his mischievous young- ster, man and ape living side by side in the Jungle, facing the same
perils, sometimes bickering, as neighbours do, but each little family synthetically interested in the other.
"Rango" ia brittle with sus pense. A deadly python, slither- ing silently through the night: lithe black panther lurking in the shadow: a pair of marauding tigers talking the jangle trails, striking fear into the hearts of the jungle folk-such moments as

ANTI-TORPEDO INVENTION.
BELGIAN OFFICER'S
CLAIM.
Brussels, April 10-King Albert wil grant a special audience next week to the Belgian artillery of eer, Major Van Rotleghem, who, it is stated, has made a reinarkable discovery which may have far- renching effects on naval warfare.
During his audience at the Royal Paluc, Major Van Kolleghem will explain to the King how he has discered the means of protecting warships froin modern torpedoes,
Secret tests which have heen car- red ont at Ostend have proved" steessful.
Major Van Rolleghen, by means of a special apparatus is stated to. be able to protect by two methods a man-owar threatened by a tor- pedo: firstly, he can cause the ex- plosion of the torpedu, before it renches ita objretive, nt such a distance from the ship that the explosion cannot damage the vessel. Secondly he is able to alter the course of the torpedo so that it misses the ship. The second result is sai to be attained by the use of compressed air.
A torpedo, it is clairsed, can be- sidca be detected on board the ves-. sel against which it is fired by means of a special apparatus which automatically works the anti-ter pedo system.
Major Van Rolleghera will show King Albert reduced models of his invention. These models will then be sont to Paris and will be ex. amined by the French Ministry of the Navy.
It is also stated that the British Board of Trade has requested. Ma- jur Van Raleghem to show his 10 vention in London.

OUTWITTED THE LAW .BUT
Mr. Clynes, Home Secretary, who recently visited Dartmoor convict prison, stated that he curae qway with the fooling that Dartmoor was a much better place for the purpose of the correction and improvement of the individual criminal than the public ever imagined.
The best thing that one could now gay about Dantoor was that it was only half full. The prison had n capacity for nearly 1,200 convicts. "I am satisfied," he continued, that the less physical punishment we inflict upon men who must be put under restraint the less likely they ara to feel sensations of revenge and vindictiveness when Again they are released for social life.
