LOCAL POLO.
FIRST MATCH IN THE
KO.Y.L.I. CUP.
RAPID FIRE AGAINST · THE
GUNNERS,
On the Hong Kong Polo Club ground yesterday, the P.B.I." de- foated the Gunners in the first round of the cohpetition for the K.O.Y.L.I. Cup.
The teams were 1-Gunners: Major Hewson, Capt. Herbage, Mr. Mould "P.B.I.:" and Mr. Schreiber. Capt. Carmichael, Mr. Worrall, Mr. Bramwell and Mr. Davidson, Referee: Col. Brownrigg.
There was some fast play up and down the field in the first chukker, but generally speaking the players failed to do justice through over anxiety. During, this period there
Was no score.
The players showed better form in the second chukker, Herbage being prominent for the Gunners, and also Schreiber, who marked the opposing back, Carmichael, very well. About half way through the period Mould scored for the Gun- ners from a melee in front of goal, Shortly after Bramwell equalised for the Infantry from a scrimmage in front of goal.
"In the third chukker some level and.open play ensued, but without either side scoring, although the Gunners hit the ball behind their own line just before the whistle blow, giving Carmichael a sixty- yards shot, from which, on his or dinary form, he would have scored.
During the early part of the fourth chukker, play was fast up and down the field, Worrall parti cularly being in good form, for the Infantry. Shortly after half time a long back-handoy from Bramwell was put through the goal by David-
SOR.
Once the Infanry had secured the lead, nothing could stop them, and they scored three more in quick auccession, each one from a run up to goal.
Final score: "P.B.I." 5: Artil lery 1:
The standard of polo was well up to Hong Kong tournament standard and the whistle only blew for four minor fouls.
