Laurence Edward IMPORTED MEAT SUSPECTED. Broomfield Palk, aged 32, son and heir of Lord Haldon, described as a clerk, appeared on remand ating Croydon charged with stealing from Morland-avenue, Croydon, gold brooch and a thirt, valued at 3178. ed., the property of Mr. Lawrence A. V. Bucknell, a cable engineer.

Falk had previously appeared before the Broomsgrove magistrates, charged with being in possession of articles bolonging to Mr. Bucknell. A police officer then said that Palk had offered to make a statement about other property, which had been taken..

Palk was also charged with steal ing other property from Mr. Buck nell. He pleaded guilty to taking

a certain amount.

Detective Bampton produced gold watch and chain, a gold

brooch, a silver eigarette cas, a shirt and a pair of trousers, which he said had been recovered on pawatickets given up by Palk.

Until the experts have de eided the cause of the qutbreak it is not possible to say whother the bacon was to blame or not. The authorities are tracing the origin of all the food in the club, qud it is expected that the source of the trouble will be established.

Every few minutes fresh victims claimed attention and nurses had to be summoned to attend the patients, many of whom were in agony. As in the case of the poisoned police men, all the patients developed high temperatures and their condition was serious for several hours.

Yesterday, however, it was stated that all the girls were showing signs of improvement. A few had been allowed to get up in their rooms, but some were still in a serious condition.
