Mr. Baldwin adopted a birthday party air, and with twinkling eyes examined the interior of the motor-car, Mr. Lloyd George, digging both hands deep in his pockets, walked round it with the manner of a connoisseur, Mr. J. The Launching,

After a short ceremony, which concluded with three ceremonial bows towards a portrait of Sun Yaz Sen, the ceremony of naming the vessel was very successfully carried through by Madame Hsiang Shih Eui, the wife of a former Commander of the Bhang- hai district. The beribboned bottle of champagne was smashed on the bows just as the Sienning com- menced to glide down the ways amid the loud cheers of the thou- sands gathered on the staging in the vicinity and perched on every point of vantage. As the gunboat took the water the shipping in the vicinity sounded their sirens, and strings of crackers were exploded while a Nationalist seaplane cir- cled round the scene.

After a bouquet of roses and a valuable silver cup had been pre- sented to Madame Hsiung as memente of the occasion, speeches were made by General Chiang Kai Shek, Admiral Yang Shụ Chuang, General Hsiung and others, Gen- eral Chiang's remarks especially being greeted with loud cheers.

Several camera aad cinema men were very busy during the cere mony taking records of the scenes, their victims standing the fire of the cameras with the greatest equanimity.
