They headed his boat for Macao while the other boat, manned by a man and a woman, followed in their wake. At 9 p.m. the same evening they arrived at a place in Chinese Territory which he later found to be called Sam Chow, and he and his wife and daughter were taken ashore to a matshed.
Other Cenfederates.
On entering the matshed the wit- ness said that he saw ten or twelve men sitting around. He noticed that they were all armed with either revolvers or rides. They were kept prisoners at thie matshed for several months during which time they had to work during the day while at night he was chain- ed. Witness said that he did not attempt to escape as "he had no idea of the locality at the time.
The Locality of the Incident,
Ir. Murphy then told his Wor- ship that he intended to engage the services of a Master Mariner to visit the locality of the incident and take the exact position, in order to give evidence as to whe- ther the spot was within British
waters.
His Wife Released To Get Money.
Continuing witness said that he wrote a letter to his mother who) was living at Cheung Chau Island for the money which the pirates had demanded as ransom. He did pot receive a reply and in April bis wife was released to obtain the money. She returned "after two weeks and said that she could not raise the money However, she went again and returned in May with the money. Witness saw his wife pay the defendant $260 "for their freedom. His wife and he were then put on a passenger bott which took them to Macao.
His Daughter Sold By Pirates. When asked of his four year old daughter, witness hesitated and said slowly-" She was sold by the pirates." Continuing witness said that they also disposed of his boat. He estimated ite value with all fittings at about 8180.

So much for the physical side. The skill of the players is question. od only by a few diehards who will not admit that there is any skill in hitting a "soft" ball with a racquet, although the aiming must be more perfect with such a ball than with a solid one.
Nor will they admit any game good in which the players do not take some risk of being injured. True, football dees cizim more casualties than lawn tennis, but I
