DALLY PRESS."]

SIR-What trash some of the Chinese baseball players have been writing against your scribe, Mr. C.L.C., and what puzzles me more | than anything else is why this gentleman does not take up the cudgels on his own behalf and call the Chinese bluff.

It is very obvious to the

TENNIS NOTES.

THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, THURSDAY, JULY 26th, 1928.

The victory of the Chinese Re- creation Club over the Nippon Club and the decision of the tie between South China Athletic Association and Hong Kong Cricket Club settled the leading position in the "B" Division of the League. In the "C" Division the failure of the South

China Athletic Association against the Civil Service Cricket Club add- ed interest to the programme.

The record of the Chinese Recrea tion Club in the "B" Division is

generalne which any Club would be proud

public, that the Chinese players

are courting publicity. Mr. LC.'s letter is the concoction of a man suffering from delusions. He said that Mr. C.LC once advocated Fazzing and in his report of last Saturday's game, he retracted from this path. Why, if Mr. L.C. would.] read DYPF the account carefully again, he will find that Mr. C.L.C. is still a believer of baseball razz, but not nasty personal remarks.

Nuffsedd in his letter to you this morning accused your represen, vtative of "defaming the reputation of some of the players." Appleance, I call it."Reputation "Is there any, Mr. Editor. It will be inter. eating to know if there is any Chinese player among the Dragons outfit who has figured in any bis league games in the States. Even spcb a notable player like Babe Ruth, our idol, is open to criticism when he fails to show his usual form in any game.

A criticism of a player refers to that very game which the newspapers are writing up, and does not necessarily mean that that particular player is bad always,

Your reporter has shown a con- sistency worthy of any newspaper- man. He praised or criticised each player after every gume played. That pitching ace Zafra, was once loudly applauded by your reporter und in last Saturday's game, he came in for a considerable amount of criticism. Why? Because he deserved it for the form shown in that very game. It may be a different report next week i! Zafra plays in his usual ́form.

"Nuffsedd also talks about players losing enterprise and energy As a result of such newspaper.com ments. Well then, all I can say is that such players are poor sports men. Criticism, as every sane man would know, is to spur the players up to do better next time, and if they allow it to knock them over, it is their own business.

DAILY PREES."]

SIR, Mr. "Nuffsedd certainly knew what he was saying in his letter you published in this morn- ing's paper, and I would like to take up some of your valuable space in voicing my humble opinion in support of his statements.

As an ardent baseball fan, I have always followed the various Notes and reports on baseball, published in your paper by your correspon dent, Mr. C.L.C. I have noticed that it has always been the habit of this gentleman to report and commeat at length upon the alleged defects and short-comings of the in- dividual players. Bince the begin- ning of the present season, Mr. OEC. seems to have harboured a very pronounced dislike for some of the Chiness players-for what reason, he alone knows,

It is only fair that the players should be encouraged, rather than be discouraged, in order to aid them on to a higher standard of play, which would be for the benefit of the Baseball Association as well as the enjoyment of the spectators. Yours, etc.,

GOOD, JOSE. Hong Kong, July 25th.
