Mr. EL. Tyrwhitt-Drake, equire and owner of nearly all the property in Amersham, has stated that the sale of the town has been made necessary by the strain of heavy taxation on his estate." Mrs. Tyrwhitt Drake said that the family very keenly regretted baving to part with the property, which they have owned for many generations. She said:
But we are glad to know that "most of our old tenants will still be in possession of their homes, for 75 per cent. have seized the chance that we offered to them and have purchased their houres. The essential old-world character and charm of Amersham will therefore be preserved.
The area of Amersham is 6,033 acres and the rateable value £34,529.
