She is named after the daughter of the American owner, and each one of the masts has own name in the traditional manner. A slight eynicism pervades the point of view of her crew, likewise following the traditional manner, and nobody would admit feeling any sen timental attachment to masts and their names.

A Grow Of Thirteen. The crew numbers 13, a direct enntradiction to the fact that every sailor is superstitutious. The cap tain of the Dorothy H. Sterling was not superstitious. He needed this number of men, but he did not need 14, and that was all there was to that.
