Two more new bunkere have made appearance during the past week, one on the 4th and the other on the 18th. I really believe the bunker on the 4th makes the hole easier rather than more difficult, It is placed at the foot of the little rise short and to the right of the green. Before this bunker was made one had a long clear strip of horizon to play at, with the green "out of sight behind it, and it was the easiest thing in the world to: hit one's mashie shot rather loosely! and finish on the right of the green. The bunker reminds one that there is a middle to the green, while in itself it is not formidable. Most shots at this hole which finish to the right are not straight-flying shots pushed out, but cut shots which would not find the bunker even if they did not carry it.·

The programme lar to-day fol lows:-

Open Bingles. 3rd Round: S. E. Green v. E. C. Fincher.

Olub Bingles. who turned the ball into the net from a pass by Costs.

The bunker on the slope above the 10th green is clearly sound and extremely necessary.

The 18th is after all a 4 on the card and the legitimate ways of reaching the green from the tee are none too difficult. II

one adds to the straight carry and the shot held up against the slope the chance of cracking the ball hard on the top and racing over the hillside on to the green, things become altogether too easy. This new bunker is very well placed. It is not large, and there appears to be a fair chance of going round it bigher up the bill, but actually any shot played above the bunker gets caught in that tenacious little ditch in front of the Chinese gravo,

Over last week-end the Gem seem ed to cause about as much trouble as any other. hole on the course, There was just enough breeze com- ing down and slightly across the hole to make it doubtful what club one ought to take to it. This must actually be about one of the best holes on the course, and as fine a short hole as one will find any- where. The really good shot always comes off as it should, and there is a definitely graded scale of punish- ments for different degrees of bad- ness. It is only very rarely that a bad shot kicks off the bank on the right and finishes on the middle of the green, Apart from this there really is very little opportunity for Inek The shot goes were it is put, and there is trouble' waiting any where off the green, some of it pretty bad for the grosser types of

shot.
