THIRD EXTRA RACE MEETING.
לי ::
COOS BAY ANNEXES EASTER PLATE.
MR. SETH WINS HEBE PLATE IN EXCELLENT STYLE.
MANY EXCITING RACES.
{BY CASH SWEEPS.]
Favoured by ideal weather conditions the second day of the third extra race meeting was successfully carried out. There was a fair attendance in the stands at the first saddling bell, and the crowd gradually got bigger during the course of the day.
Yesterday's racing saw rather small fields but there were some most exciting finishes Mr. H. Seth rode an excellent rage in a feld of three and won the Hebe Plate quite comfortably.
Coos Bay, with Mr. G. U. di Raza up. won the Easter Plato in good style. This race was very well ridden and keenly contest. ed, San Diego and Pickle fought strenuously at the last stretch for second honour and when nearing the winning post, San Diego enme within a neck of Coos Bay
Mr. R. H. Charles had an off say yesterday. He rode in many races, but he was unable to assert his old form. In the last race, he started off well on San Francisco, but had the ill luck to break his rein "when nearing home? Although he failed to win the race, henevertheless dalighted the spectators with some excellent horse- manship, when instead of giving up the fight, held on to the saddle and was lashing out to gain third pince. He was just beaten by the Duke of Verona.
The racing on the whole was quite satisfactory and the In "the seventh dividends paid. could also be considered good.
race, Zin rewarded its backers with $24.30 for second place. There were two other dividends of a little $20.
打
over Several members of the Japanese Fleet, who are on a short visit here, were guests to the Hong Kong Jockey Club yesterday. They appeared to be quite engrossed in the races, and one was heart to say in Japanese that racing in Japan with Arabian ponies, up hill and down dale, was less exciting than the contests of the - diminutive Chinese ponies.
RAPIER'S TIPS.
Mr. Rapier has said farewell to his readers, but I must point out that several of his tips for yesterday's racing proved to be right. In the first race. he tipped Boxing Eve to win and Winsome Stag for a place. These two ponies justified themselves. In the " Fourth race he tipped San Diego for a win and Coos Bay for second. The order was only just reversed. The same was seen in the eighth race when he marked down Tarzan and Erstwhile and "the order of their coming in was just reversed.

Diego was catching on to Coos Bay. It was a close fight and when Coos Bay reached home, San Diego was only two necks behind.
"The Biggest Field Of The Day. The biggest field of the day was in the fifth race when 19 ponios left the paddock. As You Like It won the race after overtaking Fire Call
Boxing Eve started out in the first race in a field of four. Wip. some Stag followed closely but com- ing to the bend by the Civil Service Club, the latter fell behind a bit. The same order of running was maintained. when going up the rocks. "Coming down the straight, Peck made a good fight for third place. Winsome Stag was then at the rocks. fully extended, but managed to secure second pince. Boxing Eve went the full distance without losing ground.

'Four Sandy Macs please'
For many years had the Four Cronies of the Exclusive Club led the fashion in drinks, calling for their "Scotchs" and "Scotchs and Sodas.”
Insomuch that when a Tall Tanned Stranger called for "Sandy Mac," whiskers wagged, papers rustled, and. eyebrows rose among the Four.
Until they marked the way he drank. And observed the deference of George who served it.
Thereafter they whispered with George. Then amongst themselves. Later the senior Crony-a Purple Colonel called in a clear voice "Four Sandy Macs, please." Somen leard.
