GENERAL.
Earlier reports in the vernacular papers that Tringsing. had fallen to the Northerners have been denied, and it is stated that there is fierce fighting between Shaasi troops and the Fengtieners for the possession of the town. At the same time & Reuter cable from Peking states that the headquarters of the 18th and 17th Fengtienese Armies have been moved to Tengsing and that the troops are advancing further west.
If the capture of Tsingsing can be regarded as authentic, it is an important gain on the part of the Northerners. Tsingsing lier on the railway line between Chengting and Taiyuen, the capital of Shansi, and the capture of Tsingsing is a step towards bottling up the Shans troops in the Niangtsekwan Pass, which was yesterday announced as the Northern policy. In an extreme case it might even open a posibility of the rapture of Taiyuan itself, a step which would completely cripple the Shansi opposition.
The Northerners also claim a victory, further to the south. Here they say that they have captured Marshal Feng's Arst line of defence around Fenglochen." The Kuominchun, "are in retreat towards Changte, Vernacular papers, on the other hand, state that hostilities have barely been commenced against the Christian General.

240 M.P.H. BY CAR AND 100. M.P.H. BY BOAT.
Behind the brief announcement thas Major Seguro had decided to attempt to recover, his title as the world's fastest motorist at Daytona Beach next year lies a romantic story of an ambition to achieve a triple record for Great Britain, writes a correspondent of the London Morning Post.
Major Segrave's idea is that Great Britain should become master
of the land, sea and air maxt year. His attempts on land and sea to that end will be made just before the race for the Schneider Cup, which will be competed for in England.
