STRIKE THREAT OF C.N.C. OFFICERS.

LIKELY TO TAKE PLACE AT END OF MONTH.

REPUDIATION OF GUILD STATEMENTS BY LONDON.

The present state of affairs in regard to the matter of contention between the deck officers and en- gineers and the China Navigation Company, indiented that the threat- ened atrike by the officers at the end of this mouth will take place, anless steps towards a settlement are made in the menutime.

The only reply received froin the Company, subsequent to the letter in which it was asked to signify (a) its consent to submit the dis- pute to an adjustanesit board in ne cordance with the terms of the arbitration agreement of May, 1916; or, alternatively (b) its de- cision to restore the salaries to the previous level, as well as to refund the salary percentage deducted since April 1st, 1927, has been Better from Messrs. Those narrow-minded people who still foolishly imagine that an in- dustrial dispute in Great Britain is purely dumestic matter must re drive. a rude shock each time they read the report of any foreign com- pany or organization connected with shipping, for in practically every one that has been published this year there has been a reference -and usually a lengthy one-to the effects of last year's coal strike upon their operations.

The latest to come to hand is the annual report of the Nether Jands Shipowners' Association. Our readers are well aware of the trying time British owners endured as a result of the stupidity of the niners, and this report shows up only too clearly how our foreign rivals benefited from
