The latest to come to hand is the annual report of the Nether Jands Shipowners' Association. Our readers are well aware of the trying time British owners endured as a result of the stupidity of the niners, and this report shows up only too clearly how our foreign rivals benefited from

The Association, however, have by no means allowed this temporary gleam of aunshine to dazzle their eyes, and they point out that the improvement in freight rates must not be exaggerated, it being borne in mind that, taking 100 in 1013 as the basis, the index figure for 1026 was only 109.08, as compared with 102.22 in 1926, 113.44 in 1924 and 109.09 in 1923.
