The following exceedingly graphic account of what the Great Strike weens to the average Indaner is taken from a girl student's letter to her father in Shanghai.

London is in a state of intense excite ment, for the "grest strike" is ON! will begin at the beginning and try to give you some idea of the state of affairs hare. Ep till the last moment, of course, everyone hoped for a settlement. Against every wall were posters with the latest bulletins. Miners' leaders meet at Downing Street"; "Hope for Peace," etc, etc., but the Government wouldn't yield, and the strike commenced at mid- sight on Monday, May 3rd.
