The police have discovered at Byfleet two bottles, one containing liquid cor- Wed, 27 m rosive poison and the other containing 241 grains of strychnine crystals, and it is Thur. 28 m stated that these bottles were hidden by Vaquier in a shed behind the Blue Anchor lintel.
"This discovery followed a statensent made by Vaqtier after conviction and disposes completely of his defence that he Jught less than two grains of strychnine, whereas, according to the evidence of Sic Bernard Spillary. Jones (the victim of the murder had taken two grains and It' is now abundantly probably more. clear that Vaquier intended, when he male the statement, to throw suspicion on Mrs. Jones, but further inquiries made at the instance of the Director of Public Prosecutions suggest that there is no foundation for this and that Vaquier had not only himself bought the whole of the poison but that he alone knew of its existence.

FOURTEEN YEARS' ACITATION. This decision is the culmination of nearly fourteen years of agitation on the part of ex-Inspector Syme for the redress of his alleged grievance that he wrongly dismissed from the Force.
was
Syme has had a remarkable history. He began ble as a law clerk in Scotland, subsequently coming to England an joining the Metropolitan Police Force... After serving a period of two years, Juring which time he proved an efficient officer, he obtained a transfer to the executive, branch of the Commissioner's Office at Scotland Yard, crentually being posted to Gerald-road Police Station as an inspector.
Je was later transferred to Fulham, and afterwards reduced in rank and dis- missed the Force for alleged insubording: tion.
He appealed to the Commissioner, but, getting no satisfaction, went with, his complaint to the Home Secretary,
He has since that time endeavoured by various means to get a full inquiry into the circumstances of his dismissal from the Force
