A Chinese accountant appeared before the Magistrate (Mr. E. W. Hamilton) at Yaumati Police Court yesterday charged with having embezzled 3230. from his em ployers, the Wing On Loung, by menus
of false entries in the accounts.
- Mr. McCallum, soliciter, prosecuted. inspector Blackman asked for a remand in plier custody for 48 hours. This was grated by the Magistrate.

Inspector Spear again brought up Chinese who had been remanded on charge of stealing rope from a junk......
A Chinese detective said that at 1.30 . on the 19th inst.. he was on duty ia a police sainpan in Yapmati Bay. He saw a boat with three persons on board. Ile shouted to these people to come along- side. They did not do so, but went on. The police boat gave chase, and drawing on the other when the witness saw one of the latter's occupants throw" something into the sea. They were then Bearing the shore where there were several boats lying. One man got ashore and escaped. The accused tried to get aahore by climbing en to one of the other boats, but witness grasped his legs and held him. Witness asked him what he had thrown overboard, and he said "Two pieces of rape." These were afterwards recovered from the water.

Asked by the Magistrate if be had realized that they were steal- ing the rope, le said that this had sug- gested itself to him, but that he was neting under compulsion and could do nothing.
The accused pleaded that the other a had committed the thelt and that be (accused) had protested, saying This will not do. He had asked to be "put ashore as seen as he realized the other man's milawful purpose.
Inspector Spear said that the accused had been sentenced in August 1923 for attempted larceny from the, person. The Inspector added that he had every ex- pectation of arresting the other man.
The accused was sent to prison with hard labour for six months,
MAGISTRATE AND KOWLOON'S BUSES.
When the driver of a motor-bus, plying at Kowloon, was convicted by Mr. Hamil ton of driving to the common danger, his Worship observed Since I have worked at Yaumati, I have seen the way the buses are driven, and in my cases it is a scandal, As you have a glean record, I will only fine you $5."

Mr. Hall put the first accused in the witness-box. In answer to his Worship, the man said that the eards (produced in Ceart, and alleged to be anlawful) must have been left by some children who had been playing with them in the first moon of the New Year. He had never heard of a Trind Society. He could not read. The only exhibit which belonged to him was one (a poster) which had been given to him by a friend.
His Worship asked if he was aware that it was a representation of the stone incense-howl which was found floating down a certain river by the monks. The accused replied that he did not know..
A second accused said that he went in The Eve inen remanded last week on a smoke opium, a third said that he went charge of being members of a Triad to get his shoes, a fourth said that the Society came up again before Mr. Hamil.object of his visit to the house was to ton yesterday afternoon.
