31st, 1023

The Net Profits for ibe yras, after pro viding for bad and doubtful debts, and including £159,105 0s. 11. brought for ward from last account, amounted to £410.811 11, tid. From this sum hag, to be deducted Est,000 being the Interim Dividend of 8 per cent, less Income Tax. on the "A," "R" and "C" shares paid in September last,

The Directors have added £30,000 to the Reserve Fund (raising it to £1,250,000) £18,000 to the Officers' Pension Fund, and written £20,000 off Freehold Banking Premises. They now recommend a Final Dividend on the "A" "B" and "C" shares of 8 per cent, less Income Tax (making 16 per cent. for the year), leav ing a balance of £157,811 11 11d, to be carried forward.

The period under review since our last report, dated March 21st, has been mark- ed by two outstanding features. In the early part of that period the market ré mained staunant. Latterly, however, a better demand appears to have sprung up from the consuming districts, which, coupled with the advance "of American cotton, has induced a healthier tone. resulting in enhanced values to the ex- tent of $2 per bale. The closing tone is good. Total sales 4,500 balos, Unsoid stocks 4,500 hales. Bargains in Chinese hands, sold and to arrive, 4,000 bales.

Shanghai-This market also experi enced a decided change for the better, prices rising about Tia. 2 to Tls. 3. Japanese Tarn.-Market steady.

Raw Cotton. No sales. Stock 100 bales, Bengal only. Quotation: Bengal 833 to 800 per pical. Chiasse $59 to 866 per picul.

KAILAN DIVIDENDS.

Messrs. Dodwell and Co., Ltd, inform ua that they are in receipt of a telegraat from Tientsin giving the information that at a meeting of Directors of the Chinese Engineering and Mining Co. Ltd.. in London an interim dividend of 27 per share free of tax was declared on account of the year ending June 30th. 1921. pay. able on May 1st next.
