We choose men of good social position for those posts, and many a man who finds his way as a matter, of course, into a Cabinet of politicians would be turned down at once for appointment as a Gov- ernor. The qualifications, of the wife are also considered. We put up with any kind of a wife in a Prime Minister. But in selecting a Viceroy we will often rale out a man on account of his wife.
