The new P. & O. liner Kidderpore bas left the Wallsend shipyard of Messrs. Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson, Ltd., to be handed over to her owners, the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Naviga tion Co... The vessel was originally intend- ed to be of the Standard B Class for the Shipping Controller, but was subse- quently acquired by the P. & O. Line and altered for their Eastern trade. dimensions of the Kidderpore are 400 ft. length, 52 ft. width, with moulded depth 31, 8,250 tons deadweight capacity on a draught of 25 ft. 3 in. The triple expan alon engines of the direct acting recípro- eating type, working a single propeller, and also the boilers have been constructed at the Neptune Engine Works of the builders. The saloon accomodates 18 per sons, and adjoining it are state-rooms. The Kidderpore will be commanded by Lieut. Commander R. H. Stringer, O.K R.D., R.NR.

An interesting feature of the prosent reconstruction period is the reinstating of the large passenger vessels which served for Cruiser patrol and convoy escort duty during the war. The Empress of Britain, owned by the C.P. Ocean Services, was commissioned in August, 1914, served on the South Atlantic patrol, and after close on a year of service, was fitted out aa a transport, carrying troops to the Dar danelles, Egypt, India; also from Canada for the Western Front daring the re mainder of the period of hostilities.
