Speaking at the National War Savings Association banquet in London, Mr. Chamberlain, the Chancellor of the Ex chequer, announced that the Government was making an early issue of Five-Year Exchequer Bonds bearing interest at the rate of 5 per cent, to meet the 6 per cent Exchequer Bonds which will be maturing in February, 3 per cent. Bonda maturing in March and 5 per cent. Bonds maturing in December

Mr. Chamberlain paid a tributs to the Labours of the War Savings Committees, and said that the amount invested in War Bavings Certificates was €200,000,000," despite the fact that deposits in the Post Offee and the Trustee Savings Banks had inorcased from under £300,000,000 in 1914 to nearly £800,000,000 last October
