Warres - Smith, who has been connected with China and Hongkong papers for early fifty years. and lessee of Hongkong Daily Press (the only Chinn Japan or Straits paper. which has its own London office) for twenty-three years, Mr. Smith says in a separate letter that Hongkong is not n forlorn island in the Pacific, but a colony of very considerable importance, the largest shipping port in the World, that is, the entrances and clearances being more numerous, and the tannage being greater than any other port, London not excopted.
