BRITAIN'S HOPE FOR THE OLYMPIC MARATHON

Training for the Olympic. Marathon is a serious bualncas for Jim Peters, of Chadwell Heath, Essex, who recently beat the world's best time for this distance when running in the AAA and Polytechnic Harriers Marathon from Windsor to Chiswick in 2 hours 20 minutes; 42.2 secs., for the 26 miles 385 yards,

Every day Peters, who works in a dispensing opticians at Mitcham, is out on the nearby track during his lunchtime break pacing away the miles as he builds up his already great stamina for the forthcoming meet- ing of the world's Marathon giants at Helsinki.

This picture shows Jim Peters out on the track during his training period. Central Press Photo.
