Using their formidable. bomber- fighters, the RAF. have established a "security patrol” from dusk to dawn over the German seaplane mirie laying bases in islands off the Ger-
man coast.
This disclosure was made yester- day in the following Air Ministry an- nouncement:
"Royal Air Force security patrols were continuously main- tained last night over German mine-laying alroraft bases in the Heligoland Bight.
"The patrols were carried out over the seaplane bases at the islands of Bylt, Borkum and Nor. derney to interrupt the activities of mine-laying aircraft operating from these bases.

Yesterday's German High Com- mand communique admitted that British 'planes carried out a raid on the Heligoland Bight on Tuesday night. It added:
"Anti-aircraft fire from the islands to the north and from the German battleships obliged the enemy to re- turn without having reached the German North Sea coast."
The presence of the R.A.F. patrols may explain the sudden cessation of broadcasting by the two independent Deutschlandsender stations at Bremen and Hamburg. They faded-out in the middle of the English news bulletins and were silent until

Even the German Messerschmitt fighters have been proved time and again to be far inferior to the British 'planes.
The R.A.F. patrols' purpose is to prevent the Nazi mine-sowing 'planes from slipping out of their bases. As soon as there la any at- tempt to move off by the German 'planes they are in danger of the

A German teacher who caused an outery in Scotland by his lectures on Nazism to students of Coatbridge Se- condary School, is believed by many of his former pupils to be the Ham- burg radio announcer popularly dub- bed "Haw-Haw,"
He is Dr. Helmut Hoffman, who came from Hamburg two years ago under a student teachers' exchange system.
He taught German at Hamilton Academy and Dalziel High School, Motherwell, but it was his lectures at Coatbridge which caused so much feeling that slogans demanding his withdrawal were chalked in the streets.
Publication of the lectures in the Scottish Press, however, showed that they were innocuous as propaganda.
Dr. Thomas Wright, head master of the school stated that he doubted whether Dr. Hoffman's English could be as polished as that of "Lord Haw- Haw," of whose diction, however, he had heard only by repute, having not yet listened to any of his broadcasts.
