GOERING'S

FADE-OUT

REMARKABLE STORY BY MADAME TABOUIS

LONDON, TO-DAY.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE NAZI OFFICIAL ENQUIRY INTO THE BOMB EXPLOSION IN THE MUNICH BEER CELLAR ON THE NIGHT OF NOVEMBER 8 ?

What has become of Captain Best and Major Stevens, the two Britons who were kidnapped by the Nazis at Ven- loo, on the Dutch frontier, on the evening of Novem- ber 9?

Since the Gestapo (the Nazi secret police) tried to fasten the responsibility for the explosion on these officers nothing has been heard.

GERMAN LINER TO RUN GAUNTLET?

Mexico City, To-day. The 10,000-ton Hamburg. Amerikan liner Orinoco, which is now in Tampico, is apparently preparing to put to sea as soon as possible.

She is taking on board supplies of food and fuel sufficient for a long cruise, and it is believed she intends to slip out of port about January 8-Reuter.

RUMOURS OF SOVIET MUTINY

London, To-day. Further reports of a revolt in the Russian lines in the Salla sector of the northern front are contained in semi-official statement from Helsinki.

The statement declares that Russian aeroplanes were forced to bomb and machine-gun their own troops in this

area.

It adds that there has also been fierce fighting between Russian infan- try detachments, and while the shoot- ing was going on, shouts and cries could be heard. Reuter.

GOVERNOR'S

NEW YEAR MESSAGE

It

The New Year dawns in the early months of another Great War, a war which we British and our French' Allies have taken upon ourselves so that the just and secure peace of which His Majesty the King spoke of nobly on Christmas Day may reign in the world. may well be that before it is won that war will con- tinue for as many years as it has as yet seen months: But won it must be, whatever the cost of life and wealth and comfort; for until the victory for peace, freedom and justice has been gained, war, or the prospect of war will continue to govern our lives.

In that cause then we must withhold nothing in order that, again to quote the King "freedom of spirit may be saved to the world." Only with our hearts so set shall we be able to achieve really and fully the sin- cere wish which I venture to send to all in the Colony "A Happy New Year."

Goering COUNT CIANO OFF TO LT. COLONEL

To-day Field-Marshal comes into the picture in connexion with this affair.

Madame Tabouls, the French po- the litical commentator, writing in Parli newspaper "Oeuvre," states that the breach between Hitler and Goer- ing (reliable reports say the latter is now in disgrace) dates from the time Captain Best and Major Stevens were kidnapped.

HITLER'S INQUIRY ~~The Britons, Madame Tabouis says, kept track of correspondence with Nazi leaders, and Hitler ordered the kidnapped Britons to be questioned at length in order to find out far Goering's policy differed his own.
