CRICKET
FINE MATCH EXPECTED BETWEEN RECREIO, K.C.C. Last Season's Leaders To Meet This Afternoon
UNIVERSITY TO ENTERTAIN
(By ADREM ")
C.C.O.
A POINTER AS TO the respective current strengths of the two most powerful teams in the Senior Cricket League last season should be provided this afternoon when Kow- loon Cricket Club, runners-up, entertain Club de Recreio, the champions.
Both teams are treating this fixture with great serious- ness in view of the great moral effect a win or a loss would have when the League match is played later in the season, and both clubs are fielding their strongest possible sides.
Recreio are
મ

more or less at full C.C.C. 1st XI:-E, Zimmern (Capt.). A, R. strength but Kowloon will be without H. Esmail, F. Zimmern, B. J. Billimoria, A. K. Ismail, A. J. Hulse, W. Hong Sling. F. Goodwin, who bowled so wellc. w. Lam, E. A. Lee, G. Souza, H. P. Lim. again Army
while back, Scorer, W. Broadbridge. Umpire, G. Ladd. N. A. E. Mackay and G. C. Burnett. Their attack, will be strengthened by R. E. Lee, who, however, is sadly lack- ing in practice.
It will be interesting
to see if J. Mills, who br vled quite well against Army, will E able to meet with the same success to-day.
A Pokfulur, University will enter- tain Craigengower. On the first meet- ing of these teams, University gave quite a creditable performance and although on the face of matters they should do better on their own ground, the fact that most of the Valley team are former 'Varsity men should offset this advantage.

RECREIO MAKE
MAKE SENIOR DEBUT THIS AFTERNOON
(By “ADREM”)
As recently as last season I should have had little hesi- tation in predicting as close a fight as one could wish for in the Senior Ladies' hockey fixture between "Y" and Hong Kong Ladies.
VOLUNTEER
CHALLENGE
TO ARMY
This afternoon these teams meet at King's Park but in view of the con- vincing form shown hitherto by "Y" and the equally unimpressive per- formances of Hong Kong, I have little hesitation in naming the former team as winners. They should win the al- points by a comfortable margin though Miss Pocock, an original selec- tion, is unfit and will be replaced by
Miss Dunn will all the vacancy in the junior team.
Hong Kong Volunteers are fielding | Mrs. Ashman, from the junior team. a very useful fifteen for their Rugby match against Army on the Club ground to-day at 4.15 p.m.. and it would be difficult to forecast the re- sult, the Volunteers having the better outsides and the Army a superior pack.
The absence of Thompson, who is down with malaria, has caused the removal of Needham from the second row of the pack to full-back, where he tackles well, though he may not prove fast enough.
Q
Day, Alec Taylor and Hopkins are all on the injured list.
The teams are: VOLUNTEERS-C. F. Needham; D. 1. Bosanquet, M. G. Carruthers, J. Hutchison and D. H, Stewart; F. Cessford and J. R. Henderson; E. W. Stout, K. A. Salter, A. F. Walkden, D. Hynes, E. A. Bompas, W. B. Richardson, G. C. Godfrey and F, Burford. ARMY-Sergt. Lang (R.A.O.C.); Bomdr. Marsh (8th H.R.A.), Lieut. Skipwith (8th H.R.A.), L/Cpl. Walte (R.E.). Gunnr. Richards (8th H.R.A.); L/Cpl, Boe (R.S.), Lieut. Hook (8th H.R.A.): Lieut. Pinkerton (R.S.), Lieut. Hewitt (Mdx. R.), L/Bdr. Evens (5th A.A‚R.A.), Pte. Berry (Mdx. R.), Gunner, Whitehead (5th_A.A.R.A.); Capt. Duke (RS.), Lieut. Cuthbertson (R.S.), Lieut. Ridadale (Royal Norfolk Regt.).
Rezervezi Sergt. Page (A.A.R.A.), L/Cpl; Apperly (R.E.), Sign. Willis (R.C.S.)..
Referee:-Comdr. Linton, R.N.
KENNEDY PLAYING Club "A" will be represented by the 'following against Navy "A" at 3.15 p.m.; A. N. Other; Nelson, Lavalle, Charter and Van Leeuwen; Bidwell and Thomson; Wanklyn, Castleton, Benn, Moodle, Roscoe, Heasman and Kennedy,
St. Andrew's, although they have out their strongest team with the ex- ception of Mrs. Bliss (Phyllis Gittins) who arrived from long leave yester- day, will not be able to take any chances against the speedy Central British School team which has been in hard training since September.
Nevertheless, the fine defence of the Saints and the shooting capabilities of Miss Reid and Miss Roberts should carry them through
A close game should result from the fixture between Recreio and C.B.A. This match will mark Recreio's debut to the ranks of senior hockey and they can be depended upon to give of their best. If their forwards take advantage of the shooting opportuni- ties which come their way they may manage to pull it off, but the greater experience of Miss I. Woolley and her contemporaries will probably decide the issue in favour of C.B.A.
The Junior fixtures should result in victories for "Y" Ladies, Argonauts and Recreio over C.B.S., St. Andrew's and C.B.A. respectively,

Points of interest. In this team are Kennedy's first appearance for Club- he has just been transferred to Hong Kong from Shanghai, where he was S.R.F.C. captain and Thomson's first and, as he knows what to do with It, real test. With Castleton, hooking Bidwell should be most dangerous at Thomson ought to see a lot of the ball," fly-half.
