GERMAN ATTACK REPULSED AFTER INITIAL SUCCESS
Paris, To-day.
A SEMI-OFFICIAL commentary compares the Ger- man attack on the French outposts yesterday with the enemy attack at the end of October. The enemy at first made progress and attacked through the line of small advanced posts, but then came into an area well covered by artillery fire.
The French infantry. were ready and the prepared plan was carried out successfully, the enemy suffering appréciable losses
The latest enemy attack was dif- ferent from the October operations in that on this ecasion the Germans met a stronger defence line. 1

frontier,
Escaping over the Polish Mgr. Shramek, seventy, head of the Czecho-slovak Catholics and a for mer Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia, has arrived in Paris.
"When I left Prague," he said in an interview, "the Government of the so-called protectorate was nothing more than a mockery, The Gestapo was in absolute control, carrying out. a reign of terror.
"Each day the oppression was becoming more brutal, with ar. rests and executions mounting up. Even in the most moderate. circles exasperation was nearing. boiling point, and I am not sur. prised at the revolt which took place a few days ago.” He described how the Catholic Faith was being persecuted.
"As the Catholic Archbishop of Liverpool declared last Sunday," concluded, "this war is a crusade, and it is the duty of all Catholles to.
the safety participate in It for Christianity."
