BRITISH PLANS FOR KEEPING UP OIL SUPPLIES

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd, Secretary for Mines, revealed in, the House of Commons yesterday that in view of the vital importance of petro- leum products in wartime a com prehensive plan had been prepared for the maintenance of supplies and the accumulation of reserves.
The plan provided for the organ- isation of transport and inland dis- tribution, for the control of prices and for rationing private cars.
Reserves of petroleum products in Britain had been greatly in- creased.

Mr. Lloyd said (British Wireless adds) that
arrangements were being made for meeting the re- quirements of fire brigades, ambul- 'ances and A.R.P. services. To provide for these and other essen- tial needs, and to ensure that the paramount demands of the fight- ing services were met in all cir- cumstances, it would be important to regulate the use of petrol, Diesel oil and other petroleum pro- ducts. vehicles would be rationed through an organisation set up by the Min- ister of Transport to regulate the use of such vehicles in wartime and after due notice a rationing scheme would be introduced in the case of all private cars.
RATIONING BOOKS Already 7,500,000 rationing books for this purpose had been printed, as well as over 35,000,000 petrol coupons for issue should the occa- sion arise.
