NANKING POISON PLOT INQUIRY: VICTIMS NOW OUT OF DANGER

Shanghai, To-day.'

The most stringent inquiry is being carried out by the Japanese authorities in Nanking in efforts to get to the bottom of the poison plot which was so nearly successful on Saturday. Nearly all the members of the banqueting party were affected and but for the fact that the plotters miscalculated the potency of the poi- son, key members of the Nanking "Puppet" Government, including Liang Hung-chi, the President, and several high Japanese military and consular officials would have lost their lives.

The banquet was given in honour of the Parliamentary Under-Secre- tary to the Japanese Foreign Office, Mr. Tomesabura Shimiza, ' and it was after drinking wine in toasting Mr. Shimiza that members of the party were taken ill, one after an- other.
