LOCAL A.R.P. SQUADS PUT THROUGH TESTS OF ENDURANCE AT HOSPITAL

At Queen Mary's Hospital this morning, the latest preventive suits for A.R.P. decontamination squads were put through exhaustive tests. At least, the suits themselves were not tested, but those within them were.

The suits have, of course, been fully tested at Home, but it was decided that it would be useful to determine what it was like to work in these suits in the Hong Kong climate, and the ef- fect, physically, on the men.

Three squads of eight men each-British, Chinese and Indian took part in the tests, in the pre- sence of naval, military and other officials, in- cluding Wing-Commander A. H. Steele-Per- kins, the Air Raid Precautions Officer.

Two suits were used, the light (which is transparent and looks

yellow raincoat now so popular) and the heavy (which is black, and looks as if it would keep a deep-sea diver dry).

SECOND TEST

According to the prosecution, the man, on finding some turnips he had bought for his supper had been in- given away, beat her causing juries to an eye.

The man was placed on a $10 bond to be of good behaviour for one year and ordered to pay $4 compensation.
