Confusion and excitement pre- vailed on the Shanghai exchange market this morning following action taken by the Control Fund in discontinuing the sell- ing of Sterling on a free mar- ket.
No selling operations are tak- ing place between banks, and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank is reported to be selling only to legitimate traders at 8d.
It is believed that the dollar rate will be readjusted at around the 8d level.--Our Own Correspondent.
YEN WEAKNESS
Chungking, To-day. The yen showed further weakness in Shanghai yesterday. One yen was exchanged for 91% cts. Chinese currency only, registering a drop of one cent as compared with the rate for the previous day.--Central News.
