FRANK WOOLLEY'S FAREWELL
An impressive ceremony mark- ed the retirement of Frank Wool- ley from first-class cricket at Folkestone yesterday. In a roped- off arena in front of the pavilion Woolley was presented with a hand- some radio-gramophone inscribed with the words:-
"To F. E. Woolley, in apprecia- tion of a great cricketer, from the Folkestone Cricket Festival Com- mittee. 1988,"
Int
happy speech before the presentation, Sir Pelham Warner pointed out that Woolley, in the course of his career, had scored 59,984 runs, taken 2060 wickets, and made over 900 catches.
The players and spectators gave three hearty cheers, and sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow,"

London, September 7.
【OPES of a Home Scots XI for the first of the football inter-
Hnationals in Belfast next, month were raised to a high point
last night by the brilliant spells of the Scottish League XI in defeating the Irish League by six goals to one, at Ibrox Park, Glasgow.
Certainly, the opposition was remarkably poor, but the Scots team, recognised as being good "on paper," proved even better than anticipated, and more than equal to an easy task. In fact, the game as a contest was ruined by early goals scored with a facility that proved the Scots to be of first class standard.
Lyon the home captain, is of course, English-born, and cannot be available for internationals, but there is reason why most of the others should not get a major honour.
