BRITISH GOLF SUCCESSES

Four nations, Britain, France, Germany and Italy battled for supremacy in the Royal Automobile Club's International Tourists Trophy race, at Donington Park, Derbyshire, on September 4. Curtis Cup "Baby" Makes Fine Recovery

There were several British successes in the First Round of The United States Women's Open Golf Championship which was held here yesterday, Miss Jessie Anderson, of Craigie Hill, beating Miss Nan Baird, of Prestwick, by 5 and 4.

Miss Helen Waterhouse, of Rhode Island, beat Miss Phyllis Wade, one of the British Curtis Cup players, by 1 up. Miss Wade made a very plucky attempt to re- duce her arrears after being three down at the 11th, but missed his chance of winning her match at the 18th where she was bunkered.

London, September 8. A crowd of 700 circled the last green at Clydebank Municipal Golf Course last night and saw Hector Thomson, former British amateur champion, sink a putt by lamplight for a 4 to square the match in an exhibition foursome.
