Take 1 cupfuls flour, 1 egg- yolky cupful-sugar, 1oz. un- sweetened chocolate, 1 or 2 tablespoonfuls milk, cupful butter, teaspoonful baking powder, pinch salt.

Sift the flour and baking pow- der into a basin. Beat butter to a cream in another basin. Stir in sugar by degrees, and beat till fluffy. Beat and add egg- yolk to milk. Add flour and li- quid alternately to butter-and- sugar, beating constantly. Add salt. Cut dough into two por- tions. Melt and add chocolate to one portion. Leave dough until cold, then roll each out in- to an oblong sheet, less than a quarter of an inch thick. Place the chocolate sheet on top of the.. other. Roll up like a Swiss roll. Stand in a cool place. Cut into slices, and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake in a hot oven for ten minutes.
