Opposition to the scheme, which has been brought to the front by the recent Football League circular, was forthcoming from two quarters yesterday.
The Council of the Hertfordshire F. A unanimously decided to op- pose any proposal to alter the laws of the game to permit two referees being placed in control of mat- cbes.

The county's representative the Football Association Council was instructed to vote against any resolution that may be submitted to the Council allowing organisa- tions the option of employing two referees in their matches.

Mr. J. F. Wright, chairman of the club, said yesterday: "The overwhelming majority of profes- sicnal footballers play the game in a sportsmanlike way, and to let Foose on footballers generally this costly, and what might easily prove to be confusing, split authority is not justified.
"I consider the game is played as cleanly now as at any time in its history."

LONDON MAKE PLANS FOR MAX BAER'S VISIT
Will Meet Neusel At Harringay
BUT GOVERNMENT MAY BAN FIGHT
London, January 29. Max Baer, former heavy-weight: champion of the world, will leave New York for England on Febru ary 10, according to Mr. Sydney Hulls, the Harringay promoter.
March 15 has been tentatively arranged as the date of his first- contest in this country, and if Jack title: Petersen, former British holder, defeats Walter Neusel (Ger many) in their contest at Harrin- gay on Monday next he will be Baer's opponent.
It is Mr. Hulls' intention to match the winner of Petersen and Neusel against Baer. If Petersen is suc cessful arrangements can go wins, straight ahead. If Neusel however, the question will aris whether the Government will allow. two aliens to meet each other.
The promoter has already asked the Stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control what their titude would be in the event Neusel winning
