AMERICAN track runners are firm believers gymnasium work as a means for remov- ing the rough edges. We may therefore assume that Glen Cunningham and W. R. Bonthron, star U.S. milers, have started training for the Olym- pic Games now that they have joined a gym- nasium class.

Matt Geis, the athletics coach who brought Bonthron to London to meet 3. E. Lovelock, has joined the pair as supervisor, so it looks pretty clear who the United States representatives will be in the 1.500 metres. Hearing. Geis talk is to be impressed. In fact, I left him last summer feeling that Bonthron was about to tear Lovelock into small pieces.

Londor, February 6. Strange how men are moderate players in one team and stars in another. One of the main reasons for West Ham's recent climb, în the Second Division is the fine de- fensive play of Albert Walker, who will shortly make his 160th ap pearance in the senior side.

Walker, a native of Bolton, made his professional debut with South- port, from whom he joined Bolton Wanderers. His stay. at Burnden Park, however, was short, and he was allowed to leave for Barrow.
