An armed conflict, ensued as the result of the Government's attempt to close the Roman Catholic Church near Jasquelle, in which three persons, represent- ing the authorities, were killed and several people were wounded, one of them seriously.
It appears that the priest did not comply with the closing law and; standing his ground against the Presidential orders with the back- ing of his flock, when the Govern ment representatives, proceeded to carry. out the official decree they encountered an infuriated mob of men, women, and children.
The foregoing incident le con-
nected with the Government action cabled on February 10.
