A reporter of this paper, who was coming into town along Hollywood Road, had reached the junction at 7.45 in the morning when he heard the crash and subsequent screams for help.

He rushed to the spot, and found the women in a terrible plight, a number of them being buried in brick and sand, some bleeding from the mouth and face, and all sending piteous eries for help..
