Mr Alex. Ting appeared to prosocute and the acousod was defended by Mr E S. Oppe.

Mr Oppe said that he would not think for one moment of answering the question

which was quite unheard of. He was there to defend the accused and that was quito | 539nough.

- Mr Ting then, addressed the Court and observing that in addition to the evidence there was a good deal of suspicion in the case, Mr Oppe rose and objected. He said that this was not a criminal chargo'and Mr Ting should not talk about suspicions. There was a good deal of suspicion on his side also, but he was not going to talk af it.

Proceeding Mr Ting said that the case for the prosecution was that the defendant was a man whom the complaints charged with fraudulently obtaining money from the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank.
