ALibo Shanghai Mized Court on fres day, May 24, dafors Mr Nyih, Artis'ant Magistrato and Mr Garstein, British A issor, the hearing of the case was romed in which the Mukden authorities charged a merbant named Ng Dau-foong with having been concerned with another at present, unknowa jio attempting fraudaș lently to draw a dancals from the Hong kong & Shanghai Bank
Mr Alex. Ting appeared to prosocute and the acousod was defended by Mr E S. Oppe.
___At_the_beginning of the cam. Mr Ting- sald that it would be of interest to his. ultimate client, the Governor of Mukčen. to know who had instructed Mr Oppo
Mr Oppe said that he would not think for one moment of answering the question
which was quite unheard of. He was there to defend the accused and that was quito | 539nough.

- Mr Ting then, addressed the Court and observing that in addition to the evidence there was a good deal of suspicion in the case, Mr Oppe rose and objected. He said that this was not a criminal chargo'and Mr Ting should not talk about suspicions. There was a good deal of suspicion on his side also, but he was not going to talk af it.
Proceeding Mr Ting said that the case for the prosecution was that the defendant was a man whom the complaints charged with fraudulently obtaining money from the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank. The sum of Tia 10,483 which was the subject mattor of this prosecution was in the early days of the revolution a portion of the public funds of the province of Mukden, under the supervision of the military
