once given before the Magistrate, the men were simply wrestling and nsed no bamboo or other dangerous weapon. Taking all these facts into consideration it was hardly surprising that the Magistrate should let the offenders off with a nominal fine. He, as is shewn from the depositions, told the 2nd, defendant (the unfortunate man | who has since met his death) to summon the 1st defendant and his brother- if they annoyed him again;. A fine of 10 cents is a consideration to a coolin, but at the same time a fine should be such that the person fined shall feel it as a punishment. It would be much better to discharge a fondant with a caution in onses where charge appears to be trivial,

INQUEST.
THE HIGH STRRIGT MURDER.
The adjourned inquest on the body of Sum Ayee, was resumed on 31st at the Magistracy. The following gentlemen com- prised the Jury: Mouars J. G.. Liddell, A. Gillanders, and A. F. dos Remedios.
Two or three of the men in custody gave' evidence, but it was of a very rumbling kind, and tended to show that the deceased and his wife were the first assilante and caused the quarrel.
