One of the next naval aide-de-camps to the Queen will probably be Captain Baird, who has served, like most other dis- tinguished officers, in your China seas. He is a grandson of the late Bir David Baird, the hero of Beringapatate, and brother to the Captain Baird of the 42nd (Black Watob) Highlanders, who was killed fighting at Ashantes, it is a litle story about his grandmother's opinion of her husband that am going to tell you-it has often been told bofore, but still is worth repeating Sir David was taken prisoner, and some one reported the clraumstance to his wife, and informed her how be would be chained to soms nigger guard. The old Scotch lady gave a bland smile and quietly romarked "I pesty the man wha's chained to oor Davey."
