Ventilation is as good as pos- sible in a ship, and the cubic space allowed to each patient is liberat. On emergency over 110 could be accommodated, giving each 600 feet on upper deck and 900 on lower deek." During the summer months ventilation of the lower deck is not good owing to winds being light or absent.
*This, of course, dues not include the large air-space above. the private wards and dispensary, passages, &c.
Including sliding shutters above private wards,
In addition to all there is an open space of 4 inches between the side and roof of ship all round,
M Store Room
All the excreta, &c. pass straight into the sea so that only sweet water can ever collect in the bilges, which are ventilated by 2 up and 2 down shafts each 3 ft. 9 in. in circumference.
