85. Maintenance of Recreation Grounds:-The grounds were maintained in good condition. Departmental gangs were employed for the purpose of mowing grass, cleaning ditches etc.

86. Maintenance of Vehicles Ferry Pier at Jordan Road: This pier was maintained in good condition. The principal items of expense involved were as follows:-electric hoists, repairs to fendering, replacement of ballast weight ropes and painting. 87. Maintenance of Buildings:-Government Buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to ten buildings. Repairs were made to the quarters at Lai Chi Kok Female Prison.

Electrical installations were maintained in good order. 149 points in four buildings were tested and four inventories of electrical fittings issued.

Improvements to Buildings:-The following work was carried out:-Shamshuipo Fire Station-alterations to ground floor, Shamshuipo Postal Kiosk-counter altered, Lai Chi Kok Female Prison-additional shelving fixed in reception office. An alarm bell circuit from Lai Chi Kok Female Prison to Police Training School was installed.

89. Roads and Bridges (Maintenance and Improvements);- The surfaces of approximately forty-two miles of roads were maintained in a satisfactory condition.
