VII. STAFF.

105. Mr. R. S. Bevan, Permanent Way Inspector, proceeded on long leave to England on April 4th, and Mr. T. Henderson was seconded from the Public Works Department to act in his place.

106. The strength of the Department at the end of the year was 566, comprising 347 monthly paid, and 219 daily paid, employees. Corresponding figures for the previous year were 632, 385, and 247.

107. Due to the handing over of the three tender express locomotives to the Chinese Section on May 1st, the staff of the Locomotive Department was reduced by 18 monthly paid and 27 daily paid employees.

108. Job analysis of personnel, commenced last year, was continued, and has enabled a further reduction of 20 monthly paid employees to be effected. Re-organization has now reached a stage where further retrenchment would impair efficiency.

109. The Railway Recreation Club's membership at the close of the year totalled 164. During June, the second annual athletic meeting was held at the Kowloon Football Club ground, and the Locomotive Department again won the aggregate challenge shield.

110. The strength of the Railway First Aid Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas, at the end of the year, was 37 officers and men, all of whom passed the Annual Examination. Eleven accidents were treated, the most serious being a fractured skull and a compound fracture of femur. Attendance
