Locomotive Yard at Hung Hom. The solution was sprayed by gravity from a series of holes in a 2-inch diameter sparge pipe fitted to a 900-gallon tank which was mounted on a 15-ton wagon. Both normal and double strength solutions were tried, without success.
97. Slips occurred in the cutting at Mile 1 and in the embankment at Mile 6, on the morning of August 2nd, after a fall of 8 inches of rain. Traffic delays of 3 hours were occasioned.
98. Damage to Railway property amounting to $5,000 was caused by a typhoon which hit the Colony in the early hours of August 17th, when a wind velocity of 131 miles per hour was recorded.
99. The portion of the approach road to Taipo Station outside the Railway boundary was taken over for maintenance by the Public Works Department.
100. Customs examination at Kowloon Station was facilitated by the provision of new permanent benches and container trollies.
101. The following Permanent Way materials were requisitioned for renewals during the year:-

3316 Creosoted Kempas sleepers
167 Bridge and Crossing timbers
3 Sets of crossings
1 Pair of switches
450 Rails
1 Set Ramapo Switch Stand, Type 20B.
VI.-STORES.
102. Stores were well kept and maintained during the year.
103. Prior to January 1st, all stores bought locally were purchased through the yearly Government contracts arranged by the Public Works Department Stores. From the beginning of the year, however, the railway was allowed to make its own contracts, and firms were asked to tender for a three months' supply at a time only. This arrangement resulted in a considerable saving in money.
